Have you ever listened much to Loudon Wainwright III? I’m a lifelong fan. He achieved some fame in the early ‘70s with his song “Dead Skunk” but he’s been below the radar for mainstream audiences since then. Loudon is celebrated as a completely unique songwriter who chronicles his life with an incomparable honesty and humor in his songs. He’s made a career out of a certain brand of sarcasm but it turns out he’s a romantic at heart. His latest release is “I’d Rather Lead a Band” and it’s a corker. Loudon has a terrific sense of swing and a robust voice that really sells a lyric. This selection of mostly Depression-era songs is sure to lift your spirits. Give it a listen!
